Landrin is of middling height. He is often called handsome back at his home. He has dark, brown hair that flows down to his shoulders. His eyes are a vibrant blue that seem to have a depth beyond most men his age, and imply that he has seen much. He has slightly upward-slanted eyebrows. His lips are somewhat full, and they always seem to curve into a smile. His sun darkened skin comes from hours of farm work in the spring and summer, and perfectly compliments his eyes. His farm work has also gained him some muscle.
Landrin is rarely seen without some shade of blue on. He often mixes blues and reds, or blues and greens. He enjoys color, but not too much of it.
Landrin walks with assurance, but tends to be clumsy when around other people.
Landrin is from a small village in Saldaea, about 30 miles out of Maradon. The village had about 300 people in it, most of which were in the surrounding farms. He was born to Alnariana al'Kuninan and Landarian al'Kuninan, and was their first born child of 5. He grew up on a farm and has a great love of growing things.
He does not know much about his family history. His father was the son of Lamarinin al’Kuninan, who died around the age of 26 (3 years after his father was born) from an odd illness, and his grandmother went to the White Tower when his father was only 5, leaving him to live with his great-uncle. He does know that there was once an Aes Sedai of fair strength on his father’s side, and his mother would not talk about the power as it relates to her side of the family.
At the age of 10, an Ash’aman came to his village. He was a representative of the Black Tower, and he forced all of the men above the age of 18 to take a test for channeling ability. His father was picked out, as was his Uncle. The Ash’aman also took about 20 other men form their homes, saying they could channel. His mother told him and his siblings never to speak of his father again. This event spawned a hatred of the Black Tower. In Landrin’s opinion, the Black Tower was responsible for destroying his family. His mother never really returned to her original self, and she seemed afraid of her 3 sons. She became very close to her daughters, and Landrin felt somewhat abandoned.
When he was 15, a trolloc raid swept through his village. He was in the back rooms when the trollocs reached his home, and he hid in a closet with his three of his siblings. He watched the trollocs kill his mother and two of his sisters and one of his brothers in the most horrible ways, and he never speaks of the incident. He was so furious and hurt by the loss of his mother and siblings that he broke his cover, and killed the two trollocs with a bow and an axe that had been in the closet (he still has no idea how he did this). He then fled his village with the few remaining villagers. He went to Maradon, where he enlisted for the Saldaean army in hopes to repay the shadow for the loss of most of his remaining family.
He returned to his village one year after the attack, to find that it had not been repopulated. All of the houses were all burned, and the blight was extended very near to the first farms. He knew then that his village would never be repopulated (due to its new location on the blight border). He swore then that he would not stop fighting the shadow until they buried him with trolloc blades in his gut.
While training for the army, he immediately showed some skill with a sword, though he is far from a blademaster. He can put up a good fight, though. He was also a good rider, from years of working on a farm with horses. He tackled many of the lessons with all of his skill, wanting to fight the shadow more than anything else.
At the age of 18, he fought in a skirmish as he went to help refugees out of a village north of Maradon. A trolloc raid fell on the refugees, and he ad 200 Saldaean soldiers fought against about 75 trollocs. They killed half the Saldaean force, and would have continued, but something killed the trollocs first. Landrin and the other soldiers were unsure at the time of what it was. Some of the trollocs just… died. Landrin later learned that he could channel, and he now believes that he killed the trollocs with the power. After this incident, he developed a brief sickness, from which he quickly recovered.
At the age of 19, around the end of his training for the army, and Ash'aman from the Grey Tower came to Maradon, and he was tested for the use of the power. The Ash'aman said that he could channel, and that he would remarkably strong in the power, far stronger than he was. He was hesitant about going anywhere where there were channelers because of what happened with his father, but the Ash’aman told him that he would be going to the Grey Tower, which was dedicated to fighting the last battle with people who channeled both sides of the power united. Landrin wishes to fight the shadow more than anything else, and in whatever way possible, so he agreed to go to the Grey Tower. He hopes to learn control over the power, and to eventually take the revenge on the shadow that he desires.
